There are many reasons your HR department might be required to employ a corporate volunteering program. Examples include increasing employee engagement, attracting more millennials to your company, and enhancing your corporate branding.
Lost Employees are Costing You
The Work Institute issued its findings into a one-of-a-kind report into employee retention last year, and the results are probably not that surprising to HR professionals across America. They estimate that almost one in four employees are leaving their jobs.
It is generally understood in business management that lower employee turnover rates yield more profit. There are situations, however, when a business may have an intentional high employee turnover rate.
Low turnover rates fall in the category of good business practices. It is a reassurance that the employees hired value the company they are working for. And if KPIs are being met, the company knows they have a valuable employee and do not need to spend money on replacing and training a replacement.
It can be challenging for HR and management to come up with constructive ways in to engage and motivate employees. Another challenge is contending with the pressure stakeholders place on management to stay actively involved in their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Skilled-based volunteering addresses both of these challenges.
The Evolution of Corporate Volunteering Software
Most corporate volunteering platforms on the market today evolved from grant management and donations tools. In years past, that was really the primary functionality corporations required. Most companies would just dole out grants and organize donation drives with a vague sense of employees “giving back”. Often they didn’t even involve employees.
Corporate volunteering is much more about employee engagement than grant and donation management. Many large corporations are now running their own charity events that involve their employees in a direct way.
Internal communication is the lifeblood of your business. It doesn’t matter how well you set up processes and procedures, if your employees do not feel secure enough to communicate to fellow colleagues and management, work will not be efficient. Problems will not be addressed properly, innovation will be stagnant, and your customers will not be served well.
Companies have been managing different aspects of their business needs with specialized software for a long time. Running a corporate volunteering program should be no different. Customized volunteering automation software can be a blessing for time-constrained HR professionals and management as it enables the effective coordination and motivation of staff and it makes engagement data readily available.
